ok so i need help with this math word poblem sum, please see if u can figure it out thnx alot!!!!!!! This is how it goes.......
A water lily ewith a rigid stem extends on feet above teh surface of the water when pulled over. It disappears beneath the water at distance 3ft from where the stem origanilly entered the water. how deep is the pond??? PLEASE HELP THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!I Show yourwork, and explaine how u got your answer Please! thank you!
Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
It start making sence after you draw it out.
Lets say the stem length is x, then the distance to the bottom of the pond is x-1. 3 feet to the side, the stem touches the water, so it kind of forms a triangle under water with sides of x-1, 3 and x. So in here applying the pythagoros you get (x-1)^2 + 3^2 = x^2
Solving that you get:
x^2 - 2x + 1 + 9 = x^2
-2x = -10
x=5
distance to the bottom was X-1, so its 5-1 = 4 feet
Reply:i think you use Pythagoreans Theorem. a^2 + b^2 = c^2
