This one is a bit far-fetched:
Name: dwarf palm (Chamaerops humilis)
Image:

Unusual behavior:
To attract insects, "These scents are released by large structures located at the sinuses of the palmate leaf"

Reply:How about hornworts? They grow completely submerged in water and really don't even have roots at all.

Francis Bacon
Figure in a Landscape 1945
This painting is called Figure in a landscape and it was painted by Francis Bacon at Hyde Park in 1945 using oil on canvas. From what I can see from the actual painting, I see that the objects in the painting are painted with a lot of thick paints and I can see there are many mark making skill involved in this artwork. Also, we can see in the painting there are many highly visible brush strokes, this suggests the artist was trying to make the painting more extruded on the background. This makes the painting looks rush at first, but after I have carefully studied the painting I found out that the painter was trying to trap more interest of a person and to encourage the people to think about what is actually happening in the painting. When we looked at the painting carefully, we can see that there are two horses and one of it was standing behind the gate. Behind the horse, we can clearly see there is a tunnel, which I think it’s very interesting because this makes me want to explore more about what is actually behind the tunnel. Overall, the painting includes many line drawings, which are on the top of different objects, making it looks as if the painter was painting about dreams.
Chaim Soutine
Landscape at Cerect circa 1920
This painting is called landscape at cerect ciraca and the painted used oil on canvas to express the storms. Landscape at Cerect circa was painted by the artist named chaim Soutine at north-west of Paris in 1920. Soutine painted the painting very aggressively with s lots of very thicken paint with depth of roughly about 5 cm, also the highly visible brush strokes are very much extruded on the surface of the canvas expressing the power it has in a storm. The painting was painted using lots of different green and the artist has painted it in different layers and also frenetic quality of the painting suggests the artist was describing about the strength of the storms.
Claude Monet
Water-lilies
Nympheas 1916
The painting is called Nympheas and it was painted using oil on canvas describing about the nature observation. This is painted by the artist named Claude Monet at his home at the north-west of Paris in 1916. Monet separated the painting into different layers by gradually building up the paint on the surface of the canvas. Monet applied the paint in different directions with different texture suggesting he’s trying to make some objects more extruded on the canvas. Also, the painting looks as if it was painted by the time of the sun-set because Monet used mainly cold colors on his artwork to express his observation of its nature.

Monet created layers by gradually building up the paint on the canvas creating a three dimensional effect. Monet applied the paint in different directions with different texture suggesting he was trying to make some objects more extruded on the canvas. The use of cold colours and tones suggests it was painted around sunset.

I'm interested in getting a baby peace lily plant. If you have been successful at growing one please tell
me all the important steps to take care of it. What kind of fertilizers (brand) do you use, how and how often? If you repot, what kind of soil (brand) do you use and do you need to use pebbles, how and what kind of pebbles? How often do you water the plant? How do you prevent it from pest and bugs? How do you clean the plant in terms of the leaves and flower, the upkeeping? Please let me know everything I need to know before I get the plant home. This will be my very 1st plant. Thanks! P. S. Should I get a baby one or a medium size one?
I'm interested in getting a baby peace lily plant. If you have been successful at growing one please tell
I have had baby peace lily plants and they get huge...it they grow slowly though and need shade. When the leaves get brown on the edges. ...that means they have too much water. I live in a semi tropical area and have put them outside and they are about 3 feet tall now. I used blood and bone in the soil. It is the best fertilizer...but outside ...dogs will smell it and dig up your plant...if there are any stray or loose dogs...so you have to water in well outside. They don't like any direct sunlight.http://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/... type in peace lily in the search box. I clean my indoor plants leaves with a soft cloth damp with milk..
Description: Spathiphyllums are related to Anthuriums. All species require normal warmth, a moist atmosphere and ample watering during their period of active growth. Their white flowers provide a striking contrast against the dark glossy leaves. The fragrant blooms may appear at any time in congenial conditions, but most freely in late spring to early summer. The plants are surprisingly tolerant of room conditions, yet sudden changes in temperature may damage the plant.
Care: Part shade to deep shade. For pots: they will grow and flourish in almost any well drained soil - e.g. a good commercial soil mix containing peat moss, bark and sand. Allow soil to dry between waterings. Requires good drainage. Warmth and humidity are essential - spray the leaves frequently. Position the pots in good light. Feed with a liquid fertiliser all year round - every two weeks from spring until late summer, monthly at half strength at other times. Reduce the amount of water in winter. Repot every year in spring. The leaves should be periodically cleaned with a soft, moist cloth.
Pests/Diseases: Mites, scales and mealy bugs can attack the indoor plant - place outside in the shade to rejuvenate.

Computer picture and music samples?
I bought a computer recently, and it contained four sample pictures (Winter, Water Lilies, Sunset and Blue Hills, the normal ones you get basically) and a Beethoven sample soundtrack. I was wondering if these are in the public domain yet or if they have any sort of copyright on them. Thank you in advance.

Guys: What do think would be a sexy tattoo on a girl's hip or side?
I have various ideas for my next tattoo. One of my ideas is to get a koi fish. But my bf said a fish is not that sexy and I thought about it and a fish does sound kinda "unsexy" lol. Um well my other ideas are, lotus flowers, water lilies or a pegasus. Whatever I get I want it to be sensual (and also meaningful in way to describe my personality) Soooo guys gimme ya ideas :) and I will look them up
Guys: What do think would be a sexy tattoo on a girl's hip or side?
what about a butterfly
i want to get a small tribal butterfly on my hip, but quite low down so its kinda private, just for me and whoever i want to share it with.
i also want something along the outside of my foot, perhaps some trailing flowers but im not 100% decided yet.
[also, i can never understand why people who dont like tattoos post answers on these kind of questions.
body art is beautiful and has been practised for thousands of years.
if you dont like them, dont get one but dont force your views upon others.]

Can a beta live in just plain water?
or does it need a filter pump thing or a peace lily?
cause i need to throw out my peace lily thats in the bowl right now and i was just seeing if my fish will be able to survive without the pump or lily
Can a beta live in just plain water?
Bettas can live without filters, however, you will need to be extra dilligent about water conditions, water changes and tank cleanliness with the absence of a filter. As long as the fish is fed and the temp is consistent the fish should be fine.
Reply:I have kept my beta alive for 2 years now without a pump and without a filter. Just in a basic bowl. Don't use dechlorinated tap water-- it's better to go to the grocery store and buy filtered water in gallons (less than 50 cents!). Tap water, even if it's dechlorinated, tends to cause bad bacteria in the bowl.
Best of luck to you. Betas are fun.
Reply:yup it will be fine -- you need to change the water a couple times a week. make sure you get a good water conditioner.
if you want a plant that will actaully live in there try a philodendron vine -- the ones with heart shaped leaves. you can make cuttings and put them in the water and they work better than the peace lily.
i would recommend you get a 2 1/2 gallon bowl and make him more of a pet than a decoration though.
Reply:yes of coarse you can they live for many days in a tiny cup at the pet store
Reply:Yes it can survive if you feed it and if the temperature is acceptable.
Reply:ok i dont like when people keep them in small bowls but yes yes you can have it in a water with 70 and higher water no ammonia a little gravel and no chlorine
Reply:yes it cane

HELP!!! I planted a blub of a calla lily plant on Valentine's Day. Will you help me?
The leaves have started to grow. I do not have flowers yet. My question is... that the leaves for some reason have some white discoloration on them. The leaves also look a bit longer then in the picture of the package. They look more slender, pointy, and long. Do you think that I may be planted something else? Or do you think that I am not giving it enough water/ sunlight/ plant food? Please HELP I don't know what to do!!

Too Long to copy, but this will tell you everything you need to know.
Reply:If you are located in this cold weather then your plants most likely are being killed by the cold snap we have had. The white color you spoke of indicates that part of the plant died from frost but, they should strengthen up soon with the weather getting warmer and the sun shine will give them a lot of strength.
Reply:If they were mine, I'd leave them alone, and wait to be surprised. It's possible the leaves are variegated, which explains the white discoloration. I have 2 varities like that. Also, don't look at the pictures. They are the "ideal", not the way the bulb will be.

Do wild baby box turtles catch and eat little gold fish in my lily pond?
This tiny new hatched baby turtle apeared in my pond this spring and was about the size of a quarter. It would come out and eat fish food, Now its about the size of the palm of my hand, and has stopped eating fish food. I have a sinking feeling it is now catching baby gold fish, as some are missing. Would it be best if it is taken out to a big open body of water and turned loose in a natural habitat?
Do wild baby box turtles catch and eat little gold fish in my lily pond?
Are U sure it is a Box Turtle? I didn't know they were water turtles...
Reply:Yes turtles will munch on your goldfish, and the bigger the turtle, the bigger the fish you'll see disappear! If you have a safe environment where you can relocate the little turtle, that will stop him from eating your goldfish. Make sure you release him in a fresh water source that has plenty of hiding places, or he may become a meal himself!
Reply:If it is in the water then it is not a land box turtle. If it is a water turtle then it will catch and eat fish along with insects, snails and occasionally plants. Just trap it with a turtle trap and relocate it to a local parks pond.
Reply:are you sure this is a box turtle? is it brown or green?
a box turtle would have drowned in your pool by now
(box turtles are brown, water turtles are green)
they can eat fish but usually the fish are much too fast for either of these turtles to catch

i'm looking for the name of a painting, i think its a water color of a woman who is dancing. I believe she is upside down. Her arms are the stalk of the flower and her dress is the petals, her legs are the stem inside the flower. its really hard to tell that this painting is an actually women and not a flower until you look closely at it and you realize that it is a woman dancing.

I need more info about claude monet and i want to know if these are good information about the painter?
Claude Monet was born on November 14 1840. His Father Claude Adolphe was a business man and his mom Louise-Justine Aubree Monet was a singer. His father wanted him to go into the family grocery store business, but Monet wanted to be an artist. So he entered the Le Havre secondary school of the Art. He was converted to landscape painting by his mentor Eugene Boudin. Who derived his taste for painting out of doors.
When he traveled to Paris to visit The Louvre, he witnessed painters copying from the old masters. Monet, having brought his paints and other tools with him, he would sit by a window and paint what he saw. After two years in the African Light Cavalry in Algeria, He returned to Le Havre where he met JonKind. In 1862 he entered the studio of Charles Glevre in Paris where he met Auste Renoir, Frederic Bazille and Alfred Sisley, with whom he was to form the nucleus of the Impressionist group. Monet devotion to painting out of doors was illustrated by the famous story concerning one of his most ambitious early works, woman in the garden. The picture was 2.5 meters high which enable him to paint it, Monet had a trench dug in the garden where the canvas could be raised or lowered by pulleys. In England he studied works of John Constable and Joseph Mallard, he painted the thames and London parks. In 1871, Monet lived at Argenteuil where he painted the famous work of the Impressionist Movement. This was Sunrise, an illustration of the Le Havre landscape. The Painting had been hung in the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874. Monet moved to the northwestern suburb of paris in 1878, where he painted landscapes and seascape that had been campaigns to document the French countryside. The campaigns had been evolved into a series of paintings. From 1890 Monet concentrated on series of pictures in which he painted the same subject at different times of the day in different lights. As he continued to travel, visiting London and Venice, he painted two important series; one was the view of the Parliament and the view of Charing Cross Bridge. Monet attention was now focused on the celebrated water-garden he created at Giverny, which served as the theme for the series of paintings on water lilies grew to dominate his work completely. He had a special studio built in the grounds of his house so he could work on the huge canvases. On December 5, 1926 Claude Monet died from lung cancer. Through the claude monet foundation. People were able to visit his home and garden. His house is the main attraction of Giverny.
I need more info about claude monet and i want to know if these are good information about the painter?

I hope what you have written is just notes and not your essay. There are lots of fragments and run-ons.

What is the best thing to clean the leaves on a peace lily?
will kitchen towel and water do?
What is the best thing to clean the leaves on a peace lily?
A microfibre cloth will do the job or you can go to a Garden Centre and buy a houseplant leafshine spray. Both are good.
Reply:Warm water, on a soft cloth or on warm days, put them outside in the rain.
Reply:Milk is an all purpose shiner for all leaves.
Reply:Peel a banana then use the fluffy wet side of the skin to wipe down the leaf, then dip a cloth in warn water, ring out and wipe clean. This also stops dust being attracted as much.
Reply:that will do it, or use cold tea(no milk!) on kitchen roll on all plant leaves, makes them shiny
Reply:Mine lives in the bathroom so I just stick it in the bath and give it a shower from time to time.
Reply:You can buy plant wipes from a garden centre, but really a washing up sponge and warm water will do fine!
Reply:this depends on where you place your peace lily. as what others suggest to have a "leaf spray", of course there is available in Garden Center or any home center (depending on what you call it) but this is only good if you place it outside the house. If inside the house, you cannot use spray as the wet will just spread on the flooring. Kitchen towel will be OK. You can wipe it with water (if you don't want to spend money) but wipe it gently both upper leaf and the lower leaf. You may use a little of Olive oil too if you like. The leaves will look more shiny. If it's outside, you may use a sprinkler to give a shower (do it early in the morning or evening).
I have plenty of plants inside the house and have to wipe the leaves with oil and water once in a month.
*Don't forget that wiping the leaves is not only the remedy to make the leaves look healthy or shiny, but some fertilizers will do too. There is a liquid enhancer available also, you may use it every once in two months.
Reply:this is very good...

using oils (notice the milk above is non-fat?) is a bad deal.. the oil plugs up the pores that the plant breathes thru, and actually gives MORE dust a place to cling....
a towel and water and a gentle touch is plenty, really....

That's a good amount of information there already.
Try Wikipedia, though that's not always the best source there is (but it compiles a lot of information into one article).

What`s your favorite insect ?
There`s a lady, a slender being, flowing softly over the river. She shakes her glass wings rapidly, pieces of shattered sacred windows from Heaven. Her body runs, a skinny shape, bends but dosen`t break. Her deep large eyes, like water drops lay gently on her tiny face. She spends all way long, beside water lilies and frogs, lone and active she flies around.
What insect is my favorite one ?.
Basing yourself on my quick description, please guess.
What`s your favorite insect ?
Your favorite insect is a Damselfly. Am I correct? Seems to fit. Lady = Damsel. They are very similar to Dragonflies except they fold their wings back instead of straight out when they land. They also have a smaller frame, which makes them look more elegant and lady-like, I guess. Beautiful insects.
Reply:I was going to say Dragonfly, byt they aren't exactly small and slender, so I'm going to say Damsel fly.
Reply:walking stick
Reply:Yeah, Koosher got it. A dragonfly. They're beautiful
Reply:Can only be a dragonfly. My fave is the praying mantis.
Reply:Sounds like my favorite insect too. The dragonfly?
Reply:Flutterbys.
Reply:Ladybug !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Dragonfly?
Reply:I'm almost pretty sure it's a Dragonfly.
But....why??

Can someone help me scan a poem for assonance?
Capitilize the examples of assonance (the repetition of vowel sounds)
Slap. Clap.
The lake's back
laps the flat
boat. Croak,
goes a frog,
croak. Flo-
tillas of vanilla
water lilies
float. Moats
of air flare,
filled with day diamonds,
flame. Tame
turtles lurch
like dreadnoughts
across murky
floors. Oars
dig dingles
in the sun-shingles
roof of the water.
Pines shine,
singing their green creeds.
Can someone help me scan a poem for assonance?
Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds in a poem. So in this poem most lines have vowel sounds that repeat. Sometimes it is the sound of a long vowel, and sometimes a short vowel.
In this poem you have the words boat, croak, goes, flotilla, float, and moats all with the long O sound.
Day, flame, and tame all have long A.
Slap, clap, back, lap and flat all have short A
Floors, oars
turtles, lurch, murky
dig, dingles, shingles
pines, shine
green, creeds.
I hope this helps. Best of luck.
Reply:cant you find it just by reading it and seeing which ones rhyme? might be wrong hto.

Depending what your teacher wants, these also have the same vowel sound: Fr*O*g, dreadn*OU*ghts, acr*O*ss, w*A*ter. Also "of" and "sun." Please ask. I don't think your teacher expects you to mark every "the" and "a" as vowels in between, but it's better to ask. At the very least, it will show an effort to study this in detail.

Some of the leaves on my peace lily have wilted. Suggestions?
It was doing so well and then I placed it outside when it was warm when this cold spell arrived out of the blue. The next day some of the leaves were paper thin and very limp like wilted greens. Will they perk up with water, warmth and sunshine? Thanks.
Some of the leaves on my peace lily have wilted. Suggestions?
you need to water it. peace lillies are great at telling you what the need... you may also need to repot. If you are watering often and the plant still is wilting then the roots are bound. Get a larger pot...Also... if it did get frostbite then cut off the yellow wilted leaves and give alittle bit of food... fish emulsion is hands down the best fertilizer because if feeds evenly and you can't burn your plant.

When can I plant calla lily bulbs?
A friend gave me several bulbs from her garden. I live in Alabama, and my yard has morning sun and afternoon shade. I was planning on planting them along the fence line. How deep do they need to go, and how close can I plant them to each other? Do I need to do anything to the bulbs before I plant them? Also, how often will I need to water them after they're planted?
When can I plant calla lily bulbs?
Easily grown in semi-shade. Just plant 2" deep 12" apart. They are usually sold when dormant (autumn/winter). Flower in summer. No need to do anything to the bulb. Mine get regular garden water and are very successful and I'm in a very dry climate. They can take quite wet conditions but need good drainage or they may rot. Proper botanical name is Zantedeschia if you would like to Google some more information. You won't have too many problems they are tougher than they look. Good luck.
Reply:look at that the back of your plant that's the best bet and it's also good to wait until after THE VERY LAST FROST OF WHICH WE ARE STILL HAVING SOME COLD SNAPS HERE IN THE SOUTH, SO MAYBE AFTER THE 20TH OF THIS MONTH WILL BE OK, ALSO CALL YOUR LOCAL GARDEN SHOPS TOO LIKE WALMART AND OTHERS TOO THEY CAN HELP YOU TOO.

How to rescue a peace lily?
It's about 11 years old. Normally I'd just toss it out but this one has sentimental value.
I use good fertilizer, but the leaves are curling and although it's still alive, it looks bad. I keep in indirect light and it's sitting in a jar right now with soil, and the roots are under water. My house is pretty warm all the time.
Please help - any ideas welcome.
How to rescue a peace lily?
Get it in a good pot with good soil. They only tolerate the under water thing for a period of time. I'm looking at mine right now that is 13 years old. It stands 4 foot high and is 4 foot wide. Its quite the conversation piece at my house.
Reply:if the leaves are curling look for insects like scale.they look like little shields and the insect is inside sucking the sap.after repotting the spathiphyllum up in a premium potting mix give a seasol solution to help "stress".you can buy a spray that is a fungicide and pesticide in one.if no insects are found you could have a fungus called curly leaf.treat with the combo.retreat a few weeks later.just for interest sake look inside the leaf stems.if you see a woolly substance these are called woolly aphids.they can be treated with soapy water slashed on them

What kind of flowers are good for a small pond?
We just installed a small pond. It is only 125gal. I would like to put some water lilies in but know some pond plants can be very invasaive. Also do you need to feed them or other water plants like you do garden flowers? What kind of plants do you suggest for around the pond and other plants in the pond?
What kind of flowers are good for a small pond?
There are a couple of dwarf varieties of lily that would work in a small pond like yours. Lilypons is a good start to look for some. Pretty much all pond plants are invasive, that's the reason that you always put them in pots.
In a 125 gallon pond, I'd put in 1 dwarf lily, 1 pot of japanese iris, and probably 1 pot of bog bean to go across the water. You could also use acorus, taro, horsetail or even dwarf cattails in a pond that size.
For around the pond I like ferns and iris. I also have something called wire plant by one little pond that is a low grower and trails into the pond, very cool.
About water hyacinths. Your pond is small so they'll fill the hole thing up within a month. They're good filters and fish like them to munch on the roots, but you'll have to keep up with them to keep them from taking over the whole thing. They do compost well.
Reply:I have a small pond of maybe 500 gals and have pond lilies and irises.... that come back each year but I think on the pond lilies you will need more depth than you have with 125 gals. why not give it a try. I also buy new each year, water hyacinth and water lettuce.(I live in NH and they don't winter over) these aren't very expensive, that are both floating plants. If you have fish they will love the shade and all plants help the eco system. Watergarden.com can give you some ideas even if you decide to buy them locally. Oh ya, about the feeding. I do give mine some water plant food tablets that have to be poked into the pots, but it is difficult because you have to remove the pots that will become grown in a bit to the bottom rocks or sediment.
Reply:Water lilies will get invasive. They look really nice when first installed eventually they will get quite large and you will have to thin them out on a yearly basis. They are perennials which means they will go dormant in winter but will come back year after year.
You could try water lettuce and hyacinths. Both are small and will propagate themselves. The hyacinth will produce a small purple type bloom.
Reply:"the gubmint" is 100% right on. I would like to add that the cheap lillies from HD, etc, are really invasive, and not worth the money. Spend a few more bucks at a pond store and get a really good lily. They will give you years of enjoyment.
Fish do NOT fertilize the plants. I use the Jobes from the dollar stores.
As far as the landscaping plants, I have: Spiderwort, 3 small grasses, Garden Germander, and, my favorite, Burgenia.
Reply:mostly any but just make sure that if they are shade plants you plant them in the shade and if they are sun plants you plant them in the sun. there are many kinds of Lily's that look nice
Reply:Water hyacinths are illegal in many states because of the way they reproduce and clogged up the streams and waterways, but many have them in their gardens incl. me. Just make sure you do not throw your excess in someones ponds or lake! I also have water lettuce which is really pretty. There are many grasses that are ornamental and also some flower somewhat and they do not take up too much space.Iris , cannas, elephant ear, arrow leaf and many other plants can be planted in or around your pond to give it a really tropical look. Make sure you have the right species to handle a lot of water though. If you have some small goldfish in your pond you shouldn't have to fertilize your plants because of the fish poop. Make sure you have the kind of fish in your pond (if you have fish) that won't damage your plants and vice versa. If your pond is balanced you shouldn't have to do anymore than give it a cleaning once a year if that often. A good resource for information is Water Club of South Texas. They have a website and are really sweet and helpful people! They would be really willing to help you with all questions and problems you might have. Have fun!

Have fun!

Tho Koi and dead Algae will provide the fertilizer.
Water lily are cheap.

they have all sorts of plants. they also have the soil and fertlizer tabs for pond plants.
happy gardening
Reply:I don't know of a place in UAE, but you can order them from the USA from. I don't know if you can get seeds of those plants, they may be hard to start. But little plants should grow fine.
There is a catch: "Plant orders outside of the United States requires a plant inspection certificate. $50.00"
I've ordered from them in the past and be very happy.
Fertilizer - they sell little capsules.
For soil you want heavy clay, really mucky soil.
They also have some good info online.
I would think you should be able to get stuff from Egypt as they have the Blue Lotus, Water Lillys, Papyrus and other great water garden plants.
Happy growing!
Reply:I wouldn't buy seeds.
I would just buy the plants.
You can probably get bulbs.

Is tea good for a golden pothos and peace lily?
I just rip open the bag and dump it on there. Maybe water it down a little. I think tea is good for acid-loving plants, but I don't know if my plants fit the bill. Personal experiences appreciated!
Is tea good for a golden pothos and peace lily?
Yes my mother used to put tea in her pothos and peace lilyes and still does the plant seems to like something in the tea, but i don't know what it is?
Reply:my father in law used nothing but cold tea on his houseplants and they were brilliant. I have tried to do the same but without such spectacular result. Perhaps he used a special tea!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:When I grow pothos, I just use water with quarter-strength fertilizer and no soil at all. It grows like mad :-)
I haven't ever grown a peace lily (spathiphyllum). If it's working, then that sounds like all the reason you need; as they say - nothing succeeds like success! If you haven't tried it yet, I really *would* stick with houseplant fertilizers. Tea is comparatively acidic, and most plants just don't need that much.
Reply:I'm not aware of tea itself having any fertilizing properties - and I would caution on using too much of it as the tannic acid could be detrimental to your plants.
Reply:I use tea leaves and liquid tea on most of my house plants and they all seem to thrive regardless of whether they are acid loving or not.
I'm not sure whether it is the tannings in the tea or the mere fact that it is liquid.
Reply:IN MY OPINION IF YOU DO NOT KNOW IF YOUR PLANTS FIT THE BILL WHY ARE YOU NOT LOOKING THEM UP TO SEE IF THEY NEED THIS TYPE OF CARE IN MY OPINION YOU ARE SLOWLY BUT SURELY KILLING THEM I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF PLANTS ALL MY LIFE AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS

How to distinguish between a lotus flower and a lily while looking at a pond full of them?
identification with respect to size and shape of petals, whether leaves float or present above the level of water etc?
How to distinguish between a lotus flower and a lily while looking at a pond full of them?
The white water lily has leaves that arise on flexible stalks from large, thick rhizomes. The leaves are more round than heart-shaped, bright green, 6 to 12 inches in diameter with the slit about 1/3 the length of the leaf and usually float on the water's surface. Flowers arise on separate stalks, have brilliant white petals (25 or more per flower) with yellow centers. The flowers may float on the surface or stick above the water and each opens in the morning and closes in the afternoon. If it sticks up above the water's surface, though, the stalk is generally only a few inches long - never more than a foot. See http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10...
A white lotus flower, on the other hand, grows more than three feet tall above the water - some varieties as tall as seven feet. The leaves, as wide as 20" in diameter, both float on the surface of the water and are also held on tall stalks out of the water, and have a "ruffled" look to the edge, with no split as is characteristic of a water lily. The flower can be as wide as 18" in diameter, held on a thick stalk out of the water, and as the flower ages, the lower petals hang down. The center of the flower is generally yellow, having the appearance of a cone, with the flat side up. There appears to be "bumps" that later turn into holes in the flat surface, which is where the seeds eventually form. The dried seed pods are very popular in floral arrangements. See http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10...
It has been my experience, however, that many people use the term "lily" and "lotus" interchangeably, especially when referring to white flowering varieties, and more commonly in Europe than in the US. I hope this helps.

I have a peace lily that is looking strange?
It used to produce really lovely white flowers, about 5-10 at a time, and now they are all green. They aren't withered, all the foliage looks good, and I haven't done anything different that I am aware.
I keep the plant indoors, in a well lit room, though it is not in a window. I am in TX with less than perfect air conditioning, it gets hot in here at times. I try to water once a week.
I transplanted it into a bigger pot about 2 months ago, but the change in color of the blooms didn't happen till a few weeks after this. About 2 weeks before I noticed the color change, I cut a couple flowers off the plant for a bouquet.
Is there anything I should do to tend this plant so it stays healthy? Can I get the pretty white flowers back?
Please help, this was given to my family on the occasion of my mom's funeral in December. It has done fine since then, so I was presuming it had a nice long life. Since I still have grief issues, this would be kind of a hard plant to lose.
Thanks

The flowers are trying to go to seed, but since it is inside they were probably not pollinated and won't produce seeds. Cut all of the spent flowers off to for new flowers. When a plant goes to seed, it doesn't need to produce more flowers, because it thinks its procreation job is done. have fun
Reply:it's normal for the flower to fade to green as they age

I bought a calla lily house plant and the leaves are drooping and turning brown do i cut them off? how much?
do i water it when its resting? and how long do i let it rest? where do i keep it when its resting?
I bought a calla lily house plant and the leaves are drooping and turning brown do i cut them off? how much?
I was given a Calla Lilly that did the same thing . Yes absolutely pinch or snip off the leaf right at the point where it joins the stalk. This will strengthen the plant cause it will waste more energy trying to heal the sick part and have less to use on growing new ones. I transplanted mine into new soil being sure to cleanse the old container with soap and bleach to disinfect it .Try to remove as much of old soil from root mass as possible without damaging to much roots (some is ok.) Mine had poor drainage that I believed was causing the roots to rot and soured the soil. Once transplanted it has made an incredible comeback .If parasites are the culprit I use a TBSP. of liquid soap with a capful of bleach (great to destroy mold%26amp; safe for plants) put in a quart spray bottle and saturate the plant leaves above and below them. Its all natural and no poisons or you can opt for some sprays at the garden center. Calla Lilly's ( the houseplant varieties) dont like full sun I keep mine under a shade tree in summer or covered porch. In winter I bring indoors when temps fall below 55 degree's at night and place in a south window for the morning sun or place it on a shelf or table near a bright window where its not hit by the sun for an extended period of time. (just partial sunlight is what it needs) The plant will do well and grow all winter it just slows down and when placed back out in spring it will flourish. Calla Lillys like to be moist, a rule of thumb I use is to place forefinger into soil up to 1st. joint and test for moisture and if dry water it till you see drainage and empty cup after about 10 minutes. Takes more water in summer and less in winter use the test.

What can I do to get my peace lily to flower ?
When I got it ,it was covered in flowers, now 2 years on it hasn't flowered since the original bloom. I feed and water it but no joy. Any ideas ?
What can I do to get my peace lily to flower ?
They do like to be pot bound, so time and care will solve this one. However, when plants flower profusely it is often because they are under stress and feel it's their last chance to propagate the species. Your plant should be out of summer sunshine, well watered and keep at no less than 15C
Reply:i have one of these and i must admit i havent had any flowers in 2 yrs either ...i since read on YA that a peace lilly loves the steamy atmosphere of a bath room ..and i am amazed to say the leaves look greener and it has really thicken out ...im hoping flowers will arrive sometime in the nr future

Reply:Hello, mine went on a right sulk and I thought it was going to die because it was kept in the wrong place. I had it in the living room which thanks to a massive tree outside is dim, and thanks to central heating due to living in England it's dry too. So, I moved it into the bathroom where I'm amazed its decided to flower (only two so far) again. It's quite humid in there obviously, plus the bathroom has no heating in it ever. Also, it only gets maybe an hour or two of direct sunlight a day. I haven't fed it for months (I'm rather neglectful haha) I just keep it well watered, but not too well and dust it once in a while. Oh, to be fair I also repotted it not so long ago too. Perhaps you could take these things into consideration with yours?

How can I re-seal my concrete pond without ripping it all out?
I sealed it the first time with portland cement type 2 mixed it with the earth and made earth cement about 2 inches thick but near the top it seems to have gotten all cracked up and now wont hold but half the amount of water it used to hold. My water lilies are barely out of their pots with such a low water level. Any suggestions?
How can I re-seal my concrete pond without ripping it all out?
Sorry Dude. cracked concrete sucks. no choice but empty, drain, clean, reseal, refill. some really good paint on pond liners are available. check with your local pond / irrigation shop.
Reply:DO not think you can do much without pumping out the water. Plus, to make the best seal, you would want to clean and dry the wall before sealing it.

My dog, Lily's back legs and back end quit last night?
We let her outside while cooking dinner. About 9 pm, and when we did she waswalking on her 2 front legs and holding one back leg up. Her bottom end was so heavy she kept collapsing. We had to lock her knees for her so she could take baby steps to move. We gave her 2 Advils in balogna not knowing that it was posinis to dogs. And 3 more at about 3am when we took her outside where she didn't go to the bathroom. We aren't sure if she can't go or if she doesn't have to. Then we put her in her chair and turned on the air condishoner. She was nervos and short of breath. We rubed and petted her thinking it would be her last night with us. My mom called our vet that comes to us, Dr.Frank. He didn't answer, but called back this morning at 6. He said no more advil and said either to not let her have food and water, or to go ahead and let her. My mom isn't sure which he said. We let her have a little, but she has been sleeping. We hope it doesn't shut down her kidneys. He think it might be a disc

How can I get my peace lily to grow bigger and bushier?
It's currently in a pot (large enough) inside my house near a window. I water/Miracle Gro® it regularly, and have for years, but it doesn't seem to get any bigger. Any ideas?
How can I get my peace lily to grow bigger and bushier?
I know this sounds odd, but you may want to try a smaller pot. Peace lillies like to be rather root bound. put it in the smallest pot the roots will all fit into. after a couple of months you should see some new growth coming in. a smaller pot will help you get the bushiness you want. transfer it to a larger pot once every year.also, peace lillies need a lot of water. check it every day. if the soil isn't wet, give it a little more. If you have a fish tank, try watering it with fishtank waterit is super high in nitrogen. If you do this you will be able to cut back on the fertilizer. most houseplants don't need to be fertilized more than once every month or two anyway. I hope this helps. Good luck

Tiger lily?
I am doing research on this particular species of flower and wanted to know some characteristics.
When is the proper time to plant?
Do they survive all year long especially in the fall time?
When are they in full bloom?
Do they need alot of sunlight?
How much to water?
Thanks for any feed back!
Tiger lily?
Tiger lily is a common inhabitant of many older gardens throughout Texas and the South. It is reported to be a native of Korea, China, and Japan, where its bulbs have long been eaten for food. Its bright orange flowers speckled with dark spots are its easily recognized feature. The tiger lily begins growth in the spring, blooms in early summer, and then goes dormant for the fall and winter. It produces no seed but can be propagated by division during the fall or by planting the small bulbils (mini bulbs) that are produced in the axils of the leaves. These should be cared for as would other young seedlings.
All lilies prefer sun to part shade. Really hot sunny exposures often burn their foliage, while heavily shaded locations don't provide enough sun for food production. Lilies tend to fall over in shady locations as well. As a rule, most lilies prefer good, well drained, organic soils with adequate moisture. Most garden soils can be amended with peat moss and sand to meet these needs.
The ones in my garden bloom June-July. When they finish blooming, they stay green for a while, then slowly die down to rest for the fall and winter. They come up again in the spring. I hace a patch that has been here undisturbed for maybe 50 years, and they get about 5-7' tall, depending on the rainfall we get in their growing season.
Reply:Tiger lily are easy to grow, plant in full sun to parcel shade,Yes they survive depends on your climate zone 7 come back every year. They bloom summer to fall.Just normal watering they can survive some neglect and dough but they won't be as pretty.

What types of fish can live happily in an outdoor koi pond in Southern California?
I have a ~300 gallon, in-ground koi pond in my yard. It's been home to a couple koi (about 10") and about one hundred mosquito fish for the last year or so. I change out 10-15% of the water each week %26amp; keep an eye on pH, nitrates, amonia and salt levels. I have a biological filter system that sprays water in the air to help aerate the pond. Also in there are 3 water lilies providing a decent amount of shade in the summer.
I'd love to put something a little more interesting in the pond (fishwise) - something colorful %26amp; not looking like a goldfish or koi. Depending on the fish, I may go out and get a 1000 watt heater which should raise the water temp by about 10 degrees. This means that in the colder months, water temps could dip down to 60 at night (on average) and are generally about 10 degrees warmer by the end of the day.
I've had one recommendation for a giant gourami %26amp; one for a fancy plecostomus - neither of which are that appealing to me as they aren't very colorful.

I have albino cats
Wimple (Myxocyprinus asiaticus) - Also known as the Freshwater Batfish. Not commonly found, it is an unusual fish that is worth tracking down if you like to have something unique. It will tolerate temps into the mid 60's
Croaking Tetra (Coelurichthys microlepis) - Not often found for sale, they are an attractive fish that is worth shopping around for. Like other coldwater tetras, they are easy to care for. I had these in my on outside pond but the bass I added ate most of them.
Barbs will grow large in an outside pond hwever not very "bright". That also goes with native fish.
I am confused as to why you need to watchthe salt levels. No salt should be in your pond for any reason.
Reply:koi and goldfish can stand cool and hot weathers. just make sure that your pond has alot of shade for hot weather. these fish can really brighten up your pond.

How to care for a peace lily?
The leaves are turning brown and cracking on the tips of some of them. Am I doing something wrong? I water him about once a week, keep him out of direct sunlight...is there anything else I should know?
Thank You!!
How to care for a peace lily?
Peace Lillie's are sensitive to chlorine in our drinking water.
The easiest way to get rid of the chlorine, is to pour a bucket of water and leave it overnight and the chlorine will evaporate out of the water.
For now, you can tidy up the ends of your Peace Lillie by trimming off the ends with your garden scissors.
I just found a good site for you to have a read. It also mentions that chlorine in the water can cause the ends to go brown.

Reply:Peace lillies are a water plant. they will survive in nothing but water. Which means you can't over-water them. Keep it in direct sunlight and maybe give it a little fertilizer. Trimming discolored leaves help overall plant health. I wouldn't really worry about a little brown on the tips, as long as it's not spreading through the whole leaf.
Reply:Trimming with scissors will only cause it to turn brown again. It could be rootbound and need transplanting.

How can I save a dropped lily bud?
I accidentally hit it and it dropped... can I somehow stick it back on its stem of put the bud on water or something?
How can I save a dropped lily bud?
No, sorry . But even if you put it in water, it might not open up. If it is a 'young' bud , it might not be mature enough to open. If it IS mature, maybe with a little warm water you can coaxe it to open, then leave it in the water.

How to cause a Peace Lily to bloom again?
I know they need more water than other plants, and really droop when you have forgotten them, which often causes them to stop blooming. Can you bring the blooms back after that? Fertilizer maybe?
How to cause a Peace Lily to bloom again?
Once the blooms are damaged they usually do not come back. But give the plant about 12 hr of light and 12 hr of darkness. Bright light but not direct sun. Water when the top inch of soil is dry and fertilize about once a month with a liquid fert like Shultz or Miracle Grow. If you do these things you should start to get new blooms.
Reply:use a fertilizer high in phosphate. osmocote brand has a great slow release fertilizer. you can find it at wal-mart or home depot.
but don't over fertilize!

I have a peace lily with browning tips, and no flowers.?
I have had this plant for over a year in the same pot, location, watering schedule. It has blossomed twice, but now it has been awhile since any new flowers. It continually grows new leaves from the center, but the outer leaves are browning and curling on the ends. This plant has sentimental value, and I really would like to fix it! Does it need a new pot...too much water??
I have a peace lily with browning tips, and no flowers.?
Remove the outer leaves. They are old and ready to be cut off. The plant needs a new pot. Make it just the next size up.
Taking the lily outside and just letting water run through it would make it happy too. Or put it in the shower, but then you have to clean the shower.
Reply:you can tell if your plant needs to be repotted by looking at the holes are roots growing out of it ,then yes if no roots are visible do not transplant usually brown leaves mean over or under watering try cutting the brown leaves off at a diagonal cut to encourage new growth sometimes when a plant gets new leaves the bottom leaves tend to turn brown or yellow if your plant does need to be re potted only go 2 inches in pot size the bigger the pot the more water you will add eventually this will cause root rot
Reply:lilies are great plants and easy to keep with a few requirements
1. you must water consistently
2. you must repot it
3. cut off the dead leaves
4. give it some plant food
5. give it some warmth and sun shine.
the main key for flowers is sun shine.
peacelilies bloom whenever they feel like it, so it may bloom in the summer. most like to bloom in the winter, but they never go dormat

Lily wants advice! No need to answer if you answered one of my other questions!?
Hi
It sounds like hip displacia to me. I had a dog that had about the same thing as you are describing, unfortunately he had to be put down as he was too old to have surgery.
What hip displacia is is when their old bones get brittle and little chips come off and rub around in their hip joints. It usually only happens to the hind quarters. This is quite painful for the animal and if it can't have surgery the most humane thing is to put it down....
Sorry to hear your dilemma and I hope she will be OK...
Reply:dont wait for ur doctor go to the vet if ur really concerned or wait fr him if u arent
Reply:It could be anything from a hip problem to just arthritis. I hope the Advil hasn't harmed her kidneys or liver but your vet can tell you that.
You will just have to wait and see. I know it's a very hard thing to do but we can't really help you any more than this.
I hope all will go well for your dog.
Reply:You'll have to wait for the vet now. That Advil surely wasn't a good idea at all.. Won't help her out no matter what's wrong with her. Good Luck!

How do you care for an easter lily?
I recieved this plant as a gift and I don't want to kill it. How often does it need water? Do you water it from the top or do you let is soak water from the bottom? Do I plant it out side or is this an inside plant? Please help.
How do you care for an easter lily?
Easter lilies will tolerate a fair amount of dryness for a short period of time so just water it thoroughly from the top or bottom when the soil feels dry to the touch. You can keep it indoors near a window until it is finished blooming then move it outdoors. After the foliage dies back cut the stem just above the bulb. Easter lily bulbs require at least a few weeks of cool temperatures (40's) to bloom well next year. Plant the bulbs about 6 to 8 inches deep to protect from freezing.
Reply:Water it from the top when it needs it, and when it gets ugly plant it, outside, in full sun. Cut off the dry foliage, and wait for next years beauty.

My peace lily has stopped blooming and the tips of the leaves are brown and it looks like its wilted help me?
I need to know how often to water, how much sun or shade needed and what is a good temp for this plant. It bloomed good and was growing just fine until I repotted it and added fertilizer about 2 months ago....please help me save the plant
My peace lily has stopped blooming and the tips of the leaves are brown and it looks like its wilted help me?
I think the problem might be in the transplanting. Why did you transplant it? When you buy/ get a Peace Lily (Spathephyllum) you should wait a good year to transplant it. There should be roots obviously coming out of the bottom of the pot. You should only transplant it into the NEXT larger size pot. So if you start off in a 6" pot, move to an 8" pot... if you move it to a much larger size pot, you run the chance of drowning the plant. When you transplant, the plant should be put into the new pot at the same level it was at in the previous pot. You should be able to see, without moving any soil, the old root ball at the surface. If you plant it too deeply (even 1/2 an inch) you can smother your plant to death. Planting too deeply may cause a plant to wilt.
Peace Lily is the same plant they used in those "beta bowls", where the roots floated exposed in water. So it is difficult to over water the plant - but not impossible.
Generally the maintenance is easy, low to medium light, temps no lower than 55 degrees. Keep it moist at all times. Chlorine in the water may cause the tips to turn brown. Leave your water out overnight, and alot of the chlorine in the water will evaporate. Even better, use rain water. Don't use distilled or bottled water, there aren't any nutrients in it. Fertilize lightly, as directed by the product you are using. (Try Schultz or Jacks).
I hope that this helps
Good luck-
** sorry, the spell-check has "gone off". ;)
Reply:Peace lilies need damp air and don't usually suffer from overwatering problems.
Surround the pot with damp peat or stand the pot on some gravel kept damp, spray the leaves with fresh water every few days. Don't keep it in full sun and don't 'overpot', they flower better if they are a bit pot bound.
Reply:Temperature: Maintain temperatures above 55 degrees F
Light: Low to bright light levels. Protect from direct sunlight
Watering: Water thoroughly then allow to dry out between watering. Generally once a week is sufficient depending on how much light it receives. A good indicator is the leaves will begin to wilt.
Fertilize: Fertilize monthly from spring to fall. Use general purpose houseplant fertilizer.
Maintenance: Cut out flowers as they fade and clean the leaves regularly.
This will keep your plant blooming Good Luck!

I have a Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) and the leaves are curling and wilting. how do i keep it/get it healthy?
The plants leave are curling under. The flowers have bloomed but the plant just seems to be sagging. I read to only water the plant once the soil is completely dried out from the previous watering so I've been trying to stick with that. Any ideas on how to care for this plant would be much appreciated.
I have a Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) and the leaves are curling and wilting. how do i keep it/get it healthy?
go ahead and remove any dead leaves, best to use sissors and cut from the bottom. put it in the shower for a minute to let the leaves and soil get nice and wet. then you need to keep it in a nice cool shady spot, these plants do not handle sunlight very well. i own about 6 of them and i have had them for about 5 years now, it was a trial and error thing for me, but now i have beautiful plants and the best part is that they are low maintainence. just water it once or twice a week while you try to bring it back, then stick to once a week.
shade and water is what your baby needs =)
Reply:It doesn't like direct sun.
And yes, it's best to let it dry between waterings - but not to the point of plant-wilt.
If it's getting "completely dry" between waterings, it's possible that the soil is so desecated that it's not taking water, and when you "water" it, the water is basicly sliding down the sides and not soaking into the soil itself. Test this by "watering" it, and then digging down with your finger - there should be no dry spots.
If this is the problem, you'll want to sink the pot in water, and let it sit for 15 minutes until the reluctant soil aborbs liquid again. Then pull out, let drain, and put back in its place.
Reply:I have one that does the same thing. I have found that by watering it when it starts to droop, it will perk back up. It's also neat to sit when it's quiet after you have watered it, because you can hear the leaves perk back up.

Why are is my peace lily plant leaves still turning brown?
I changed the soil, repotted, water w/ filtered water; enough(not alot %26amp; not to little). I keep the leaves clean, it gets medium light and I had fertilized already (not to much). Still my leaves are turning brown.

Possibly too close to the window.
Reply:It could be too much UV rays directly to the plant.

Can I submerge my lily seeds to jumpstart growth?
I plan on sowing the seeds in real soil once they germinate, but for now I'm concerned with IF they'll germinate if I dunk them in water for the first few days or something. If this is a plausible way to start growth, how long should I keep them in the water and what other circumstances should I try to keep to ensure the highest chance of germination?
Thanks
Can I submerge my lily seeds to jumpstart growth?
Sowing lily seeds in real soil can risk infecting the seedlings with a disease. It is not required to presoak most lily seed for germination, though oriental lily seed does benefit from this treatment. Simply sow the seed at the right time. Here are some good articles that describe the starting of lilies from seed.

Reply:Lilies I have start from blubs not seeds. But seeds or bulbs should be planted in dirt not water. Use some containers you don't need for a while to get them started. They will still need water and sun even to start.
PS - if is a perenniel bulb, just plant it in the Fall.

If it's a disc, you mostly just want to keep her quiet. This disc will cause her nerves in her legs to not work right and cause her pain. The more she moves, the more she can damage delicate spine tissue. And probably not to give her food or water in case she needs surgery. Let us know how it goes, okay?
Reply:stop asking this question go to a dog vet, ur letting her die! do something about this poor little dog
Reply:That sounds either like a neurological problem, or some kind of inflammation somewhere. I'm curious what the vet will say. It may just be her time. Keep her safe and comfortable until the vet gets there.
Good luck to you!
Reply:Try lightly pinching in between the pads on her back feet. She should pull her foot away from you if not you know her spine is being compromised either by a tumor or ruptured disc or possibly traumatic injury that occurred while out of your site. In any of the cases about the vet will have to be the one to treat your dog. No home remedy is going to fix them.
Reply:I'm sorry, I doubt anyone on here will be able to help. I think this can only really be handled by a vet. I guess just make sure she gets lots of rest, gets quite alot of fluids and seems comfortable.
Reply:Well, still think the vet is an idiot..how can he tell without even viewing the dog?
But if your set on waiting for him, DON'T lock her kneecaps (can't imagine how one would do this anyway) use a towel and run it under her and use it to hold her back end up like a sling.
I DOUBT it's a tumor....tumors don't come on instantly like that.

Lily of the valley - planting and growing tips?
first off, i bought some bulbs (seeds?) and they look really dry and like fat hollow straw strands. is this normal? i had no i dea what i was doing, i just remember my grandma used to have them when i was a kid and i thought they looked beautiful. should i cut off those straw-like tips? that's how they came in the bag from the store. they look kind of ugly right now. have i bought something already dead? hah. if this is normal, how long should i expect to wait until i see anything change? should i water every day? less often?
Lily of the valley - planting and growing tips?
You may have bought duds. Lilly of the valley is a spring flower, with the blooming happening at the same time as lilacs (I have both).
Lily of the valley is best transplanted in the fall. When first unearthed you will see small bulbs attached to hairy root systems. The dead looking stalks you talk about is what is leftover of their previous tops.
Try planting these now (I sure hope they haven't dried out too much), about an inch into the soil, with those hard little stalks sticking straight up. Group them fairly tightly together (in a diamond pattern about 2 inches apart). If they survive and start multiplying they will do this by division of the bulb itself, and the areas beside each will fill in fairly quickly.
Also lily of the valley really likes shady areas...some sun is okay, but it should be planted in an area that is in shade for the afternoon. And they like moist soils, so enriching the soil underneath the bulbs with a good 4 inches of mulch will help feed them and keep them healthy for years.
Finally, please remember that lily of the valley IS poisonous. Make sure your kids and pets don't try to chew at them.

Reply:Must have bought them from an idiot mart, er...mass-merchandizer? Those came to the store in mid-Feb, %26amp; should have been potted or planted by April . They are probably dead, or severely weakened . The "straw" is from the plants starting to grow, %26amp; then drying out . Take them back %26amp; get a refund . If you want L-o-t-V, walk around , %26amp; look for someone with a lot of them . Ask to buy some . He/she will probably just give them to you . In any event you will get a better deal . If all else fails, buy some plants from a local garden center, or pips from a reputable mail-order/online plant company . ( NOTTTTT!!!! Michigan Bulb Co., or Springhill Nursery - small crap, almost as bad as where you got the ones you have.) I'll look for some good sources . Back in a bit.;D

Reply:They don't like to be planted too deeply, %26amp; they love shade.
They prefer cool, moist, acidic soils
Plant 1-2" below soil level. They're usually planted in the spring when the ground warms to about 50 degrees.
Once established, they'll grow rapidly %26amp; will need to be divided in spring or fall. Each division should have at least one “pip”- a pinkish-white growing tip that looks like the eye of an Irish potato. Add plenty of organic material to the planting area- compost or leaf mold both work well. After planting, the pips should be one inch below the soil surface. A one to two inch mulch of shredded leaves or pine straw should be added after planting to conserve soil moisture and to keep the soil cool. Top dress with a new layer of organic material each fall, and then cover the planting with a new layer of mulch.
I had the same problem when I bought my rhizomes fro WalMart. They never came up. I planted them in good potting soil mixed with peat moss. I took extra care to provide them with the best growing conditions, but nothing happened.
You'll have to go back to the store to get a refund. I'm actually contemplating going to a garden center to buy one that's already growing. Once you get one that's growing, they easily increase.
Sorry that you got such a bum deal.
Good luck on your next try at growing them!
Reply:Lily of the valley's month to bloom is May, I'd suggest planting them in total shade, they thrive well under a tree, the look that you have described just sounds like they are in hibernation, don't take them apart. Remember, these plants spread, if you place them around a tree, make a small hedge around it with stones to contain them. They'll be beautiful next spring!

Plants in my fish tank?
i got water lily bulbs and they've been in there for 5 days and there's like white film bubbles arround them one arround each bulb and i have two of them in there................
Plants in my fish tank?
They are most likely duds that are beginning to rot. You could leave them in there another day or two, or move them to a shallow plate of water and cover them with paper towel. Next time, consider buying bulbs that already have roots or leaves growing on them.
Reply:It may be just because it is new to your tank (since it is a live plant), but it should probably go away soon. Or maybe you should just get plant treatment if it starts growing fungus or bacteria or something.
